TEMPORARY LOCAL RULE
Preferred Lies in Bunkers
Scottish Golf and CONGU have allowed the following local rule to be introduced for all golf at this time, including competitive golf.
When a player’s ball lies in a bunker, the player may prefer the lie within six inches of the spot where the original ball lies.
In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.
PERMANENT LOCAL RULE
Embedded Ball in Bunker Face
Following the example of many golfing organisations and clubs, it has been decided to introduce a permanent local rule denying free relief for a ball embedded in the face of a bunker:-
Rule 16.3 is modified in this way:
Free relief is not allowed when a ball is embedded in stacked turf faces above bunkers.
Player may play the ball as it lies or declare the ball unplayable and proceed under Rule 19 (Unplayable Ball) incurring a penalty of 1 shot. As the ball is not in the bunker the player is not required to drop the ball in the bunker.
