World Handicapping System Update

The new World Handicapping System officially came into effect in November 2020. Here are the main features of the new system:- A player now has a Handicap Index that is calculated as the average of the best 8 of the last 20 scores on a players record. For handicapping calculations the Adjusted Gross Score is compared to the  the Course Rating and adjusted by Slope of the Course played to give a Score Differential.  It is the Score Differentials that are used to determine the Handicap Index – best 8 of the last 20. Following the statement from the First Minister on Tuesday the Board has been actively considering implications for the Club and Members. Ultimately the overriding concern is for the health and safety of all Members, guests and staff.  The Club has been fortunate so far that the direct effect of the pandemic on Members has been limited and our objective is for this to continue. World Handicapping System – Update

WHS – Green Tees After reconsidering the treatment of the Green Tees for casual handicapping purposes it has been decided to change and calculate the Course Handicap off the green tees by adjusting a player’s index using the table applicable to the white tees rather than just using a player’s rounded handicap index.  The previous treatment disadvantaged higher handicap players. From now on please refer to the table on the back of the noticeboard at the flagpole or pick up a handicap calculator card from the clubhouse and use the White Tee information. Course Maintenance

Our course remains in excellent condition thanks to the excellent work of our  greenstaff.   Our plea to all members today is to take action to ensure this is not spoiled unnecessarily.   This covers:- Bunkers – Rakes are not available but can all golfers please make some effort to smooth foot-prints and other damage caused in the bunkers.  It looks terrible to see clear footprints in the sand. Broken Tees – Please pick up all tees (broken or otherwise) after playing from teeing area. Recently there was as many as 20 broken / discarded tees on the 16th tee.   These look…

Covid 19 Update – Locker Rooms, Practice Ground & Small Course

LOCKER ROOMS It has been agreed to open the locker room but only under certain strict conditions. The default position is still to change shoes etc in the car park and there will still be no requirement to change into jacket & tie. Numbers in the locker room will be restricted. The locker room will only be available if necessary, to change shoes or clothing – e.g. if wet after playing in the rain.  It will not be possible to leave items in the locker room, even if changing.  All bags, shoes etc must be taken back to your car….

Update- Covid 19 Regulations

Following the First Minister’s announcements yesterday (10th September 2020) some important changes are required in the clubhouse with effect from Monday 13 September 2020. Only 6 people from 2 households can mix in the clubhouse at any one time.  This effectively means that it will be tables of two throughout the Smoke Room and dining rooms, unless individuals from the same household are involved.  Furniture – tables and chairs – must not be moved in the Smoke Room or Dining Room.
